Transportation Assistance

The Epilepsy Foundation Alabama (EFAL) is committed to supporting individuals and families impacted by epilepsy across our state. We currently offer transportation assistance. As we continue to grow, we look forward to expanding our programs and services to better meet the needs of our community.

Transportation Assistance Program

  EFAL offers essential transportation support through Uber Health and local transit authority passes to help individuals access essential appointments and resources.

Individuals may apply for either the Uber Health program or a transit authority pass — not both — within a calendar year.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Alabama Must have an epilepsy diagnosis or seizure disorder and see a neurologist/epileptologist
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle independently
  • Rides must start and end within Alabama

Program Details:

  • Uber Health: Up to two round-trip rides per calendar year (maximum 15 miles per one-way trip). These rides can be for essential trips. 
  • Transit Pass: One six-month local transit authority pass per calendar year
  • Up to two additional passengers may ride with the individual through Uber Health

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Uber Health rides must be scheduled at least two business days in advance
  • Transit pass requests must be submitted at least two business days before the first ride

For more than 50 years, the Epilepsy Foundation has shone a light on epilepsy by promoting awareness and understanding, advocating for laws that matter to people with epilepsy, and funding epilepsy research.
