About The Epilepsy  Foundation Alabama

For more than 50 years, EFAL has shone a light on epilepsy by promoting awareness and understanding, advocating for laws that matter to people with epilepsy, cultivating community, and providing programs and services for our community.

Over 54,000 People in Alabama are Living with Epilepsy

Founded in 1971, the Epilepsy Foundation Alabama provides programs and services that support people and families impacted by epilepsy. With the strength of a national organization and network of epilepsy experts, EFAL provides national scope and local impact.

From groundbreaking research to SUDEP support, local educational programs and a nationwide Helpline, Epilepsy Foundation Alabama is here to serve you.

We are leading the fight to ensure no one faces epilepsy alone in Alabama by supporting and mobilizing the epilepsy community through educational activities, direct services, advocacy, and community initatives. The Foundation also seeks to educate the general public to better understand epilepsy and seizure disorders, including knowing proper seizure first aid.

Our Mission

Improve the lives of people affected by epilepsy through education, advocacy, research, and connection.

Our Vision

So no one faces epilepsy alone.

Our Story

How We Got Started

More information coming soon about the history of EFAL.

Where We Are Now

Epilepsy Foundation Alabama (EFAL) is currently implementing a strategic plan to transition from a chapter of the national organization to an independent affiliate of the Epilepsy Foundation of America. This migration will position EFAL to better deliver localized programs and services while remaining an integral part of the national Epilepsy Foundation Network.

The EFAL Board of Directors and staff are diligently working toward the goal of becoming an independent 501(c)(3) affiliate by July 1, 2027. As part of this effort, we are developing new programs and services, expanding our team, cultivating strategic partnerships, and strengthening our organizational capacity to truly serve as a statewide nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that no one faces epilepsy alone in Alabama
